{Celebrate} Kaitlyn's Favourite Things Party

Planning my daughter's 8th Birthday was such a joy to create as it was a real snapshot of who she is and everything that makes her unique and wonderful.  I utterly enjoyed planning this party and had some wonderful vendors on board to help me bring this Favourite Things Party to life!  I would like to give a BIG Shout Out to Emma from Haven Lifestyle Photography who captured every special moment and made the day so enjoyable. {THANK YOU}

The inspiration for this party came from Kaitlyn discussing all her favourite things (over hot chocolates and cake of course!) that she would like for her 8th birthday celebration and so a theme was born....a favourite things party.  On a shopping trip she had found some lovely fabrics in shades of pink, yellow and orange which then formed the colour palette for the party and so l got busy trying to make her vision come to life.  It was lovely having a client that led the creative journey and told her story of what makes her unique and special!

I wrote a poem about Kaitlyn's favourite things which formed the basis for the party and really helped me style it accordingly.  Sara from The Homespun Hostess created the most lovely Favourite Things Party Printables for me to bring this theme to life

Here is the poem l wrote and it is to be sung to "A Few of My Favourite Things" from A Sound of Music.

Puppies & kittens & all furry critters,
Drawing & painting & crafting with glitters,
Painting my nails & putting on rings
These are a few of my Favourite Things

Ribbons & ruffles, buttons & tassels
Playing outdoors & building sand castles
Smelling the flowers that bloom in the Spring
These are a few of my favourite things

Popcorn, maltesers, marshmallows & movies
Raspberry Fanta as well as fruit smoothies
Cake Pops & chocolates & cupcakes with wings
These are a few of my favourite things

The party involved quite a few craft activities such as making their own furry critters using jumbo pipe cleaners and decorating paper glasses with an assortment of glitters, gems, paints and feathers.

The final craft activity was making their own gum ball necklaces inspired by Rebekah from A Blissful Nest and here is her wonderful tutorial

The children then put all of their creations into their favour boxes which contained a nail polish, ring and a handmade rosette headband l created in Kaitlyn's favourite colours, pink, orange and yellow.

I used a wonderful tutorial from Nat Sprat to create these pretty headbands and Nats instructions are so easy to follow even Kaitlyn created one!

Once the craft activities were finished we then settled down with Kaitlyn's favourite movie and a dessert table adorned with all of Kaitlyn's favourite things.

Desserts included caramel popcorn, butterfly cupcakes with jam and cream or butter cream, vanilla bean cookie pops decorated with fondant flowers, chocolate cake pops and finally a chocolate butterscotch cake decorated as a sandcastle with a glitter pompom bunting and a button monogram.

The children could also help themselves to an assortment of Kaitlyn's favourite candy such as sixlets, maltesers and marshmallows.  There was also a drinks station with bottles of raspberry Fanta and a delicious fruit smoothie of peaches, mango, raspberries and apple juice.  For decorating the drinks station l used a large canvas covered in a lace tablecloth and a free initial print from Onto Baby to form a monogram which l transferred onto yellow fabric and adorned with flowers, tassels and buttons.

I created the dessert table backdrop using an assortment of fabrics in Kaitlyn's favourite colours and accented them with natural laces, a handmade ruffle garland and kraft paper.  At the centre of the backdrop was the poem adorned with gold glitter ribbon, flowers and buttons.  I kept with the brown paper packages and string theme and used twine from Whimsy Farm Twine in yellow, orange and pink for creating tassels, accents on the invitations, decorating drink bottles, decorating the flower pots and for the glitter pompom cake bunting.

For the party table I created a ruffled ribbon paper garland in yellow, orange and pink and this doubled as a beautiful photo backdrop.

I decorated the party table with the fabric l used to create Kaitlyn's dress as well as kraft paper and jars of pink and orange roses with some more ruffled ribbon paper streamers.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing Kaitlyn's Favourite Things Party and a BIG thank you to all of my AMAZING Vendors!
