{Bake) Oreo Truffle Mousse Cake inspired by Sweet Style

During the week l spotted a Dessert Table created by Leanne from Sweet Style which got me really excited! Not only was it perfectly styled like all of Leanne's work but it was full of delicious Oreo's.  I have never really understood people's obsession with this little cookie until l made Oreo truffle cake pops last weekend and now l am obsessed!  It is amazing how this cookie is transformed into the most deliciously decadent truffle by simply adding some cream cheese!

Last week when l saw the "Black & White 40th Birthday Dessert Table" by Sweet Style l was blown away!! Who would have thought a cookie could be so versatile and make such an impact?? I totally love the Oreo Cake Tower created by Jacki from Blissfully Sweet and the Oreo Cheesecakes in a jar look so delicious with their black and white layers of cookies and cream goodness!  I love everything about this dessert table! Black and white has never looked so good!

To see all the stunning details from this party please pop on over to http://www.sweetstyleblog.com.au/archives/1212 but here are a few photos to get you hungry!!

And here is the dessert l made over the weekend inspired by all of this Oreo goodness! It is a Oreo Truffle Mousse Cake and it caused me all sorts of grief..so this will be a recipe requiring some perfecting but we all learn from our mistakes so hopefully my knowledge of what not to do might come in handy!

Don't try and UN-mold your cake and shift it onto a serving plate until it is fully set otherwise it will crack...Do cover up mishaps with more chocolate!  Don't put Mini Oreo's on top...Do put crushed up Oreos on top! I found it very difficult to slice small pieces because of the mini Oreos so crushing them would allow for smaller servings of this rich and decadent cake!!  Next time l think l would do a triple layer mousse with a cookie crumble topping to get a cookies and cream effect but all in all this is a DELICIOUS cake and l am quite proud l mastered tempering chocolate!

Ingredients:
1 pack of Oreo Cookies
1 1/2 tablespoons of cream cheese at room temperature
450g of dark chocolate for Mousse
200g of Dark Chocolate for case (optional..can use choc covered TV sticks as another option which would be easier)
39 Mini Oreo's
2 x 600ml Thickened Cream at room temp
1 sachet of Gelatin

Method:
  1. Place packet of Oreo's and cream cheese into a food processor and pulse until they form into a firm dough.
  2. Create your chocolate case by tempering chocolate and spreading a nice even layer using a palette knife onto chocolate plastic strips which are on top of baking paper.
  3. Place in fridge until semi set and peel from baking paper and line the inside of a spring form tin with the chocolate strips with plastic facing outside and pop back into the fridge.
  4. Take your Oreo Truffle mix and place inside the base of the spring form tin and pop back into the fridge.
  5. Place 1litre of cream into a mixing bowl and whip until a soft trail forms..do not over whip the cream.
  6. Put remaining cream into a saucepan with gelatin and stir over medium heat until the gelatin is dissolved.  Allow to cool to room temperature
  7. Melt Chocolate in a double boiler or microwave. l use the microwave and melt in 1 min intervals and stir each time until melted. Allow to cool to room temperature.
  8. Pour chocolate and gelatin mixture into cream and mix on high until just incorporated and then fold through with a spatula.
  9. Pour mousse mixture into tin and refrigerate until set..best to set overnight.
  10. Place cake onto a serving plate and remove spring form tin. Peel off plastic strip and then top with mini oreo cookies and serve! (I had to pipe some white choc squiggles to hide my cracked case due to being impatient and moving my cake before it was set!)
